A burst pipe can put a lot of water into a house fast. Close the main shutoff first, then call. If water is near outlets, the electrical panel or appliances, stay out of it.

What we do

  • Repair split, burst and frozen supply pipes
  • Replace corroded or failed sections, and re-pipe runs that keep failing
  • Repair failed fittings, valves and outdoor hose bibs
  • Check the rest of the run for more damage after a freeze

What we don't do

  • Water damage restoration, drying or mold remediation
  • Repairs to the water main or curb valve (your water supplier's job)
  • Oil boiler repair or heating system service

How it works

  • Stop the water. If you can't find or turn the main shutoff, we start there.
  • Find every break. A freeze can split a pipe in more than one place, and some splits only show once the water is back on.
  • Repair and test. We repair the pipe, turn the water back on slowly and check the whole run under pressure.

Why pipes fail here

A large share of Long Island's homes were built in the 1950s or earlier. In Hicksville, 82% went up before 1960; in Freeport, a third were built before 1940, according to the Census Bureau's latest five-year survey. Older houses often have original or patched piping, runs in exterior walls and unheated crawl spaces, and garages that were never meant to be heated. Those are the pipes that freeze first. Pipes can also fail without a freeze: old fittings, corrosion and water hammer all take a toll over decades.

Questions

Burst Pipe Repair FAQ

A pipe froze but didn't burst. What should I do?
Open the faucet it feeds so water can move when it thaws, and warm the area gently. Never use an open flame. If it doesn't thaw or you see a split, shut off the water and call (631) 644-2084.
How do I stop pipes from freezing?
Keep heat on in the house, open sink cabinets on outside walls during a hard freeze, disconnect hoses and close the shutoffs to outdoor faucets before winter.
The pipe burst in the ceiling. Do you open the ceiling?
Sometimes we have to open part of it to reach the pipe. We open only what's needed. Patching and painting afterward is drywall work, not plumbing.
