Most bathroom and kitchen plumbing is about the parts you use every day: toilets, sinks, faucets, tubs and showers. During a remodel it's also about what's behind the wall, the supply and drain piping that's often as old as the house.

What we do

  • Install and replace toilets, sinks, faucets, tubs, showers and shower valves
  • Dishwasher, disposal and ice-maker connections
  • Re-pipe supply and drain lines during kitchen and bath remodels
  • Plumbing for added bathrooms, laundry rooms and attic or dormer expansions
  • Gas piping for a new or moved range (see gas lines)

What we don't do

  • General contracting, tile, cabinets or drywall (we do the plumbing)
  • Duct cleaning or vent cleaning

How it works

  • Look at what's there. Before a remodel, we check the condition and size of the existing supply and drain lines.
  • Rough-in, then finish. The piping goes in while the walls are open; fixtures go in at the end.
  • Test it. Supply lines are tested for leaks and drains are run before the walls close.

Older houses, older pipes

Long Island remodels usually happen in houses built decades ago. In the Village of Freeport, a third of homes were built before 1940; in Levittown, 85% were built in the 1940s or 1950s, and many Levitt houses have been expanded into the attic or out the back, so the plumbing is a mix of originals and later add-ons. That's why we check the old lines before new fixtures go in.

Local rules can shape the plan. The Village of Hempstead, for example, bans living space in cellars and basements; only a rec room, bathroom, laundry and furnace room are allowed there, with permits. Check with your town or village building department before you design a basement bath.

Questions

Bathroom & Kitchen Plumbing FAQ

Can you move my kitchen sink to an island?
Usually, but the drain has to be properly sloped and vented, which can be harder in an island. We look at the floor and the space below before you commit to a layout.
My toilet runs all the time. Is it worth fixing?
Usually, yes. A worn flapper or fill valve is a small repair, and a running toilet can waste a lot of water.
We're adding a bathroom upstairs. Is the existing plumbing enough?
It depends on the size and condition of the supply lines and the main drain. We check both before the rough-in.
