Carriage makers on the railroad.

Wikipedia says the area was Willis family farmland, and the LIRR station that opened in 1865 brought brick, windmill and carriage making; Henry M. Willis designed the East Williston Runabout Roadcart, and Oakley and Griffin built more than 1,000 of them. The name East Williston dates to 1879. The village incorporated in 1926, the same year Williston Park split off as its own village. In the 1930s the Wheatley Ridge development was built on a former Will Rogers estate, and in 1985 the village core was listed on the National Register as the East Williston Village Historic District. It covers 0.6 square miles.

The Census Bureau's latest five-year survey counts about 900 homes, with a median year built of 1951. 31% went up in the 1950s, 29% before 1940, and 7% after 1980. 98% are single-family detached houses, and 98% are owner-occupied.

So a typical house here has drain and water lines around 75 years old unless they've been replaced. Slow drains in several fixtures, a gurgling floor drain or rusty water from one tap are signs to have the main line and supply piping checked. With so many pre-1940 homes, some still have galvanized or older supply piping in the walls; we plan repairs around what's actually there.

Oil to gas means new gas piping.

The ACS shows 77% of homes heat with utility gas and 21% with fuel oil. Switching means properly sized gas piping to the new equipment, and often to the water heater, range and dryer. We do the gas line work. We don't sell or deliver oil.

Water heaters in East Williston.

The Census Bureau's survey puts the average owner household at 3.08 people, with a median of 7.7 rooms; 97% of homes have three or more bedrooms and 62% have four or more. A tank sized for a smaller household, or one full of sediment, is what runs out first when several people shower back to back. When a heater fails, we size the replacement to the household and the number of bathrooms, not just to the label on the old tank. Most houses here heat with gas, so the water heater is usually gas too, and it needs a sound flue, a working shutoff and a relief valve that discharges where it should; we check all three when we replace one.

On the sewer.

Nassau County's health department lists East Williston's sewers under the Nassau County Department of Public Works (516-571-6841). A backup that stops at your house is usually in your own line to the street; we clear it and repair or replace the line. If neighbors are backed up too, call the county at 516-571-6841.

Little mapped flood risk.

FEMA's current flood map puts none of East Williston in the high-risk flood zone.

Water: Village of East Williston's water system.

EPA's service-area map puts about 96% of residents on the Village of East Williston's water system, with about 4% on the Village of Mineola's water system; your bill is the final word. The main supplier's most recent 90th-percentile lead result was 0 ppb (none measured), under the 15 ppb action level; lead usually comes from a home's own pipes and fixtures, so results vary house to house. The main supplier wasn't part of EPA's 2023–2025 UCMR 5 PFAS testing, so its annual water quality report is the place to look before choosing a filter. For a leak at the curb or in the street, call your water supplier. For anything on your side of the meter, call us.

Permits.

East Williston is an incorporated village, so plumbing permits go through the Village of East Williston's building department, not the town.
