Once part of Wyandanch.
Wikipedia says Wheatley Heights was historically part of Wyandanch and still shares its ZIP code and fire department; the name change came from Wyandanch postmaster Thomas A. Brown. Around 2001 it was part of the failed plan to incorporate a Village of Half Hollow Hills. The CDP covers 1.4 square miles, bordered by Dix Hills, East Farmingdale, Deer Park, Wyandanch and Melville.
The Census Bureau's latest five-year survey counts about 1,500 homes, with a median year built of 1970. 6% went up in the 1950s, 2% before 1940, and 25% after 1980. 77% are single-family detached houses, and 88% are owner-occupied.
So a typical house here has drain and water lines around 56 years old unless they've been replaced. Slow drains in several fixtures, a gurgling floor drain or rusty water from one tap are signs to have the main line and supply piping checked.
Oil to gas means new gas piping.
The ACS shows 45% of homes heat with utility gas and 38% with fuel oil. Switching means properly sized gas piping to the new equipment, and often to the water heater, range and dryer. We do the gas line work. We don't sell or deliver oil.
Cesspools and septic, mostly.
Laying Suffolk County's sewer-district map over the Census boundary shows none of the hamlet in a county sewer district, so most homes rely on cesspools or septic systems. We clear the line from the house to the system, but a full or failing cesspool is a job for a cesspool or septic contractor; we don't do cesspool work, and we don't install septic systems.
Little mapped flood risk.
FEMA's current flood map puts none of Wheatley Heights in the high-risk flood zone.
Water: Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA).
EPA's service-area map puts essentially all residents on the Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA); your bill is the final word. The main supplier's most recent 90th-percentile lead result was 1.3 ppb, under the 15 ppb action level; lead usually comes from a home's own pipes and fixtures, so results vary house to house. In EPA's UCMR 5 testing, the main supplier's highest single PFOA/PFOS result was 17 parts per trillion. EPA's 4 ppt limits apply as a running annual average starting in 2029, so one high sample is not a violation, but it's the kind of number a carbon filter is sized against. For a leak at the curb or in the street, call your water supplier (SCWA: (631) 698-9500). For anything on your side of the meter, call us.
Permits.
Wheatley Heights is an unincorporated hamlet, so plumbing permits go through the Town of Babylon's Division of Building.

Yes, all of Wheatley Heights (ZIP 11746, 11798), plus the neighboring communities listed below.
Is Wheatley Heights on a sewer or a cesspool?
Most homes here use a cesspool or septic system; a sewer district charge on your tax bill means you're connected. We clear the house drain line, but cesspool pumping or replacement is for a cesspool or septic contractor.

EPA's service-area map puts essentially all residents on the Suffolk County Water Authority (SCWA). Your bill says which. For leaks at the curb or meter, call the supplier; inside the house, call us.
Can you handle the gas piping when I switch from oil to gas?
Yes, we install and repair gas lines for heating equipment and appliances.
When can I reach you in Wheatley Heights?
We answer calls 24/7. We're open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. Call (631) 644-2084.
