Jayne's Hill, the top of Long Island.
Wikipedia says West Hills County Park holds Jayne's Hill, at 400 feet the natural highest point on Long Island, and that West Hills once had its own post office on Jericho Turnpike (then Middle Post Road); homes now use the Huntington post office. It borders Woodbury. The CDP covers 4.9 square miles, all land.
The Census Bureau's latest five-year survey counts about 2,100 homes, with a median year built of 1961. 36% went up in the 1950s, 3% before 1940, and 12% after 1980. 93% are single-family detached houses, and 95% are owner-occupied.
So a typical house here has drain and water lines around 65 years old unless they've been replaced. Slow drains in several fixtures, a gurgling floor drain or rusty water from one tap are signs to have the main line and supply piping checked.
Oil to gas means new gas piping.
The ACS shows 24% of homes heat with utility gas and 69% with fuel oil. Switching means properly sized gas piping to the new equipment, and often to the water heater, range and dryer. We do the gas line work. We don't sell or deliver oil.
Cesspools and septic, mostly.
Laying Suffolk County's sewer-district map over the Census boundary shows none of the hamlet in a county sewer district, so most homes rely on cesspools or septic systems. We clear the line from the house to the system, but a full or failing cesspool is a job for a cesspool or septic contractor; we don't do cesspool work, and we don't install septic systems.
Little mapped flood risk.
FEMA's current flood map puts none of West Hills in the high-risk flood zone.
Water: South Huntington Water District.
EPA's service-area map puts essentially all residents on the South Huntington Water District; your bill is the final word. The main supplier's most recent 90th-percentile lead result was 1.3 ppb, under the 15 ppb action level; lead usually comes from a home's own pipes and fixtures, so results vary house to house. In EPA's UCMR 5 testing, the main supplier reported no PFOA or PFOS. For a leak at the curb or in the street, call your water supplier. For anything on your side of the meter, call us.
Permits.
West Hills is an unincorporated hamlet, so plumbing permits go through the Town of Huntington.
Local reference points: West Hills County Park, Jayne's Hill and the Walt Whitman Road / Jericho Turnpike area.

Questions
West Hills plumbing FAQ
Do you cover all of West Hills?
Yes, all of West Hills (ZIP 11743, 11747), plus the neighboring communities listed below.
Is West Hills on a sewer or a cesspool?
Most homes here use a cesspool or septic system; a sewer district charge on your tax bill means you're connected. We clear the house drain line, but cesspool pumping or replacement is for a cesspool or septic contractor.
Who supplies my water?
EPA's service-area map puts essentially all residents on the South Huntington Water District. Your bill says which. For leaks at the curb or meter, call the supplier; inside the house, call us.
Can you handle the gas piping when I switch from oil to gas?
Yes, we install and repair gas lines for heating equipment and appliances.
When can I reach you in West Hills?
We answer calls 24/7. We're open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. Call (631) 644-2084.
