Lakeville, then the UN's first home.
Wikipedia says the area was settled in 1783 and known as Lakeville until about 1927, when the village incorporated; the name comes from the kettle lake, which village lore says was called "Sucut." The federal government built the Sperry Gyroscope plant on Marcus Avenue in 1939 (22,000 workers in World War II), and part of it served as the temporary headquarters of the United Nations from 1947 to 1952. Northwell Health leased much of the former plant in 2005. The highest point in the village, 259 feet, is at Great Neck South High School. It covers 1.9 square miles.
The Census Bureau's latest five-year survey counts about 800 homes, with a median year built of 1957. 39% went up in the 1950s, 2% before 1940, and 17% after 1980. 99% are single-family detached houses, and 93% are owner-occupied.
So a typical house here has drain and water lines around 69 years old unless they've been replaced. Slow drains in several fixtures, a gurgling floor drain or rusty water from one tap are signs to have the main line and supply piping checked.
Gas piping.
The ACS shows 85% of homes heat with utility gas, 4% with electricity and only 6% with fuel oil. New gas ranges, dryers and water heaters need properly sized gas piping, and a leak test after any change; we do the gas line work.
Water heaters in Lake Success.
The Census Bureau's survey puts the average owner household at 3.33 people, with a median of 7.8 rooms; 99% of homes have three or more bedrooms and 68% have four or more. A tank sized for a smaller household, or one full of sediment, is what runs out first when several people shower back to back. When a heater fails, we size the replacement to the household and the number of bathrooms, not just to the label on the old tank. Most houses here heat with gas, so the water heater is usually gas too, and it needs a sound flue, a working shutoff and a relief valve that discharges where it should; we check all three when we replace one.
On the sewer.
Lake Success is sewered. Nassau County's health department lists Lake Success Village (516-482-2559) as a sewer collection district, and Wikipedia says the southern part of the village is in the county sewage district while the rest drains through the village's own sewers to the Belgrave Sewer District, which treats it under contract. A backup that stops at your house is usually in your own line to the street; we clear it and repair or replace the line. If neighbors are backed up too, call the Village of Lake Success (516-482-2559).
Little mapped flood risk.
FEMA's current flood map puts none of Lake Success in the high-risk flood zone.
Water: Manhasset-Lakeville Water District.
EPA's service-area map puts essentially all residents on the Manhasset-Lakeville Water District; your bill is the final word. The main supplier's most recent 90th-percentile lead result was 1.6 ppb, under the 15 ppb action level; lead usually comes from a home's own pipes and fixtures, so results vary house to house. In EPA's UCMR 5 testing, the main supplier's highest single PFOA/PFOS result was 5.3 parts per trillion. EPA's 4 ppt limits apply as a running annual average starting in 2029, so one high sample is not a violation, but it's the kind of number a carbon filter is sized against. For a leak at the curb or in the street, call your water supplier. For anything on your side of the meter, call us.
Permits.
Lake Success is an incorporated village, so plumbing permits go through the Village of Lake Success' building department, not the town.
Local reference points: Marcus Avenue, Lake Success itself and the village pool (approved by residents in 1955).

Questions
Lake Success plumbing FAQ
Do you cover all of Lake Success?
Yes, all of Lake Success (ZIP 11020, 11042), plus the neighboring communities listed below.
Sewage came up through my basement floor drain. Who do I call?
If it's only your house, the blockage is usually in your line to the street: call us. If neighbors have it too, the public sewer may be backed up: call the Village of Lake Success (516-482-2559).
Who supplies my water?
EPA's service-area map puts essentially all residents on the Manhasset-Lakeville Water District. Your bill says which. For leaks at the curb or meter, call the supplier; inside the house, call us.
What size water heater does a Lake Success house need?
It depends on the people and bathrooms, not the house's age. Lake Success's average owner household is 3.33 people and 99% of homes have three or more bedrooms, so we size the tank to your household and fixtures, and check the gas line or wiring, flue and relief valve when we install it.
Can you handle the gas piping when I switch from oil to gas?
Yes, we install and repair gas lines for heating equipment and appliances.
When can I reach you in Lake Success?
We answer calls 24/7. We're open Monday through Saturday and closed on Sunday. Call (631) 644-2084.
